As an interdisciplinary artist he is engaged in search and reflection of the forms and ways emotional, sensual and unconscious can be fixed as visual images. ROMAN SHALGANOV
philosopher, curator

In his artistic practice, JOY uses a number of expressionistic and minimalistic techniques to capture the truth through artistic means. The initial attitude of expressionistic painting is when a specific work is aimed at broadcasting the experience of ranscendent, which possesses the artist as an obsessed one. This experience turns into a pictorial form, which in its structure expresses an extreme degree of transcendence — the object the author is trying to depict exceeds our perceptive abilities so much that no artistic form is able to fit into fully, forms are busting at seams and tearing apart. To a certain extent, the approach of minimalistic painting is similar — the object to be depicted is recognized as "not fitting into" by definition, the boundaries of the canvas become the frame of the image, which is able to capture only an infinitesimal fragment of this object. The artist maintains both aspects of the technique, with new basis he returns to the metaphor "paintings as windows to the world", when the painting rather becomes "a porthole with a view of indescribable."
