CITY | SERGEY VASILIEVSolo Exhibition | LUCH Gallery
19 April – 1 June 2025
The gallery LUCH presents the first personal exhibition by Moscow artist Sergey Vasiliev "City" with two series of his works: painting and mosaic on board.
Sergei Vasiliev's paintings are designed as planimetric schemes. He paints avenues, interchanges, railway lines, waterways – many places are easily recognizable to a Muscovite and refer to a real city map. In the deserted urban landscapes there are no people or plants, only an urban environment cleared of all living things.
The human hands in Sergey Ve's mosaics resemble canonical gestures in icon painting, which the Russian icon inherited from Byzantium, and the latter partly from Roman orators. The artist transfers them to the current situation, and in these works they refer to modern culture – deep human feelings and experiences, as well as fleeting news items and short emotions of social networks.
The strange, empty landscapes and intimate mosaics of Sergei Ve are an extended metaphor for the modern information space.
ABOUT THE ARTISTSergey Vasiliev graduated from the Surikov Moscow State Academic Art Institute in 2021 with a degree in easel graphics. He works as a monumental artist designing religious buildings.
